The Mississippi Gulf Coast Y Explores a New Facility in Harrison County

Who We Are…

As the nation’s leading nonprofit, the YMCA strengthens the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Y has served the gulf coast since 1975. The Y was founded to improve health and quality of life by providing programs for children and families of all backgrounds. Everyone is welcome at the Y. We believe that positive, lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors. As we enter the stretch run to build a new $23 million Y in Harrison County with the help of BP funding, there’s one question. Will a new Y be an economic driver? There’s 150 million reasons the answer is yes. That’s the amount of investment around a new Y 100 miles to the East. Check it out!

Help Us Bring A New YMCA To The Gulf Coast!

The MS Gulf Coast YMCA has an opportunity to expand into Gulfport, the second largest city in the state, with a 64,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility that will serve all three coastal counties. After an extensive market study we have selected a site located on a 6-acre site located at Gulfport Highlands just off Cowan in Gulfport. Based on our preliminary planning the facility will include a modern, bright, and inviting two-story fitness, aquatics and community center at a cost of $23 million. It will be paid for through a combination of $18 million in BP Restore Act money and a substantial $5 million commitment from the Y.
