Dear YMCA Community,
At the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA, we are guided by the principle to help strengthen the foundations of community. We want to let you know we’re thinking about all of you—our staff, our members, our program participants, our suppliers, and our community partners —as we work through the effects of the coronavirus.
The local Boards of Health remain the primary point of contact for us. The Health Departments in each of the communities we serve are working diligently with the Mississippi Department of Public Health and local representatives from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Based on their guidance and information we are receiving we have decided to close ALL Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA facilities and programs effective, March 17th at 6:00 pm.
While our facilities will be closed, we will continue to serve our community through outreach services from mobile assistance to our Seniors to providing childcare to local emergency responders. We feel now more than ever that our YMCA plays a critical role in serving our community. We will also assist our members in staying healthy during this time by providing online virtual exercise classes.
During this week we will be monitoring the situation to determine the best course of action going forward on a week to week basis. We will keep our staff working by conducting general maintenance on our facility, such as deep cleaning of equipment, facility cleaning and painting.
