How the Y is Responding to Community Needs

The Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA has been serving the Cult Coast community for over 40 years and we’ve learned that our purpose comes from our responsibility to our cause: that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why at the Y, strengthening community is our cause.  Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. At every turn, we’ve learned more about what it means to step up and lead in challenging times and be there for those who need us most.

We’re already pivoting our work. We’re picking up speed to serve our community resource partners, our region’s most vulnerable and first responders affected by the novel coronavirus (COVID19). In times like these, it’s critical that we work together as a community to lift those most impacted by health and economic challenges. Maintaining your membership dues, volunteering, and donating help the Y tremendously, as we take on additional work to meet the growing needs of our fellow community members who are economically or medically vulnerable.

We are directing our community funding to these critical and essential services urgently needed to support the response and recovery of this area:

Showing up for First Responders by Caring for Children

The closure of our community’s school districts has caused significant impacts on the families of our first responders and employees of essential service organizations. While others may self-isolate, our health care workers, emergency personnel, and social service workers are working long shifts and isolation from family to provide care. With schools closing, affected families are suddenly searching for affordable childcare. You can solve this with us. Your investment enables us to provide childcare programs to directly support our first responders and other essential personnel. We will care for their families while they care for ours! We will begin offering childcare services to essential personnel in our community beginning Monday, March, March 23rd. The hours of operation offered will be 6am-6pm.

Payments for care will be on demand and based on need.
No automatic drafts will be scheduled and NO REGISTRATION FEES
